New to Cranbrook

Welcome to Cranbrook we hope you will enjoy being part of our new developing town.  Once you have settled in, found all the things you thought you had packed before moving house, what do you need next?  Firstly it is useful to have all the contact details of all the main utilities such as electricity,  broadband Services, EON district heating and the water/sewage authority.  These contact details can be found in the Useful Information section of this website.   It should be noted that electricity can be supplied by any commercial supplier unless you have moved into a brand new property where you could be restricted for the first year to EON.  After the first year you are free to choose your own electricity supplier.  For Broadband the choice of supplier is slightly complicated as it relates to which development phase of Cranbrook your property is located in.  It is best to seek advice from your Solicitor or the relevant developer/selling agent.  You could even have a choice of supplier in your particular development phase.  The remaining utilities are your permanent suppliers.

Next where are the nearest shops?  A small (Co-op) supermarket can be found at Younghayes which provides for most daily requirements but importantly it also contains a sub Post Office.  Adjacent to the Co-op is the Cranbrook pharmacy, also  there is a Charity shop.   At present the Cranbrook Town Council office is also located in the Younghayes Centre, and is staffed from 10am to 2 pm Monday to Friday, should you need to contact them personally.  Further afield there is a large Sainsbury supermarket and an Aldi supermarket both located in Pinhoe some 3.5 miles away. Alternatively, there is a medium size Sainsbury supermarket in Ottery St Mary about 5.5 miles away.  The Sowton industrial estate, ~6 miles away, provides for DIY, Plumbing, Builders merchants, Electrical supplies etc.

Young families where are the schools?  St Martin’s C of E primary and nursery school is located  at Younghayes, Cranbrook.  The Cranbrook Education Campus in Tillhouse Road,  provides Nursery,  Primary and Secondary.  In nearby Rockbeare there is also the Rockbeare C of E Primary school.  The ‘Buttons’ below will link you directly to their websites for more information and the Town Council Website provides regular updates of local progress on planning related information, road closures etc.

Currently, Cranbrook has a small library, which also provides computers for internet access, in the Younghayes Centre but for a larger selection of books there are libraries in Ottery St Mary and Honiton.

The local bus service (4, 4A, 4B) serving Cranbrook provides a regular 20 minute service to and from Exeter.  It also extends to Ottery St Mary, Honiton and Axminster although the latter destinations are not quite so frequent.   Travel by train from Cranbrook’s own station can take you to Exeter or elswhere on the UK’s rail network with an hourly service for local stations.  Their timetables can be found in the Useful Information section of this  website.

We welcome any extra suggestions you have to add to this ‘New to Cranbrook’ section as we have been here a while!

We hope this information helps you settle in to your new environment and you can join us in establishing Cranbrook as a town to be to be proud of.
